ATHLETICS
Kingman Boys and Girls Club offers organized team sports, clinics, and camps in basketball, football, baseball, soccer, tennis and golf for boys and girls 6 to 16 years old in the Logan Circle/Shaw/Cardozo area of Washington, DC. The Club participates in several DC athletic leagues. Notably In 2002, we won the D.C. Football Youth League championship for players under 85 pounds. Other Athletic Victories & Accievements include: - 2004 D.C. Parks & Recreation Citywide Championship for basketball players 8and Under
- 2005 Capital Beltway League competition football championship for players under 125-1bs.
- Kingman's 30 years athletic legacy is winning championships and sending hundreds of athletes to Division 1 and 2., and universities across the nation. In 1987 our highpoint was winning the National AAU basketball championship.
- Among the prominent athletes who once wore the Kingman green and gold are Duane Simpkins, Vaughn Jones, Darryl Webster, Bobby Winston, former Houston Rocket Steve Francis, and U.S. Olympic softball player Avon Meacharn, and former Buffalo Bill , Edmondton Oiler player, Donald Wilson and 2009 1st Team All Metropolitan and Harvard University basketball player Christian Webster.
Athletic programs available during the summer day camp are: - Golf and Tennis camps with professional players providing instruction and training.
- Our soccer and baseball teams play in citywide youth leagues.
- All year round, members take trips to professional and college games in football, basketball and baseball often with free admission and accompanied by adult chaperones.
- In May every year, Kingman's annual awards ceremony honors the special role of volunteer coaches and parents.
- Other award presentations recognize athletes who display outstanding sportsmanship and attitude as well as showing our appreciation for the dynamic cheerleading squad.
